Based on 154 reviews The tech was prompt and did excellent work. Michael Jones I had solid plumbing & drains come out to make some repairs on the drains for both my toilets and replaced my outdated laundry box that was not working. The techs Emmanuel and Mario were so professional, fast, and knew exactly what the problem was. They even went the extra mile and hooked up my washer and dryer once they finished the repairs. Everything works perfectly now. Solid service, fair pricing, and real attention to detail. I’d highly recommend them. Elizabeth Hernandez I needed a plumber to take care of a main line back-up on a Saturday. The team responded promptly, was very professional, and took care of the issue all in one visit. Thank you! Jennifer French I had some landscape drain problems. Had one of the TV big company over and they essentially said they needed to bust up my concrete patio etc etc and they would not touch a lateral drain. Got in touch with Mario and had a great conversation with him on the problem. He came over with his crew Emanuel and Angel. Mario diagnosed the issue and created a plan of attack. The main drain line was full of roots but he got them and the issue if FIXED. They were pleasant to deal with, very professional and did a great job. I will definitely go back to them for any further inside or outside plumbing problem! Thank you Mario! Joe Vaccaro Great service. Quick response and reasonable prices. Nance Lakdawala Mario and his crew were extremely professional and very thorough during their job. We had sewage back ups and burst pipes and they worked quickly to get the job done. I would 100% recommend Mario to anyone with plumbing concerns. Brent Teraoka I loved the quick response. Even though I paid more than I think is reasonable I will use them again for their professionalism and quality of work. Jill Eastin Solid Company & Drains Representatives reported as scheduled and came with an attitude of getting the job done. They secured their ladder, hopped up in the attic and within 5 minutes Mario had determined the problem. He took pictures of the area and sent them to me on my phone. He explained each photo. Incredible! Additionally, he suggested that I get a specialty company to use special tools to determine if there is additional water damage in the wall area that they could not see. I really appreciated that suggestion. Thanks to Mario and Angel for their professionalism, friendly attitude, and great plumbing skills! Claudette Lobbins

Based on 131 reviewsVerified Emmanuel and Angelo are the best team! They showed up at my house in El Cajon within 30 minutes of calling. We had been dealing with this issue for almost a year, and they were the first ones to actually figure it out. They ran a camera down the drain, found the clog right away, cut out the damaged pipe, and replaced everything properly. Great pricing, super professional, and easy to work with. Highly recommend Solid Plumbing & Drains! David W.Verified i hired Mario and his crew (Emmanuel and Angel) today for a landscape drain issue after turning away one of the big TV companies that essentially refused the work. Mario showed up on time, reasonably diagnosed the issue and made a game plan. In the end he was able to clear the problem! They left the job clean. very professional and job well done! thank you!!! J V.Verified Mario arrived before he said he would. Pleasant & knowledgeable. Daniel assisted, and they resolved the blockage. Very grateful; highly recommend this company!!! Linda A.Verified I had a patio drain that was very sluggish. Mario and Angel came and took 2 hours unblocking a mountain of mud from down the line. They were professional, resourceful using multiple pieces of equipment and persistent working till the blockage finally gave way. They also had to go through my house to get to drain and they were very neat laying down plastic to protect my floors. I am a very happy and highly recommend them. M R.Verified Mario talked a good game, and the job got done. I am not sure I got the best value, but that's partially my fault, in that I was motivated to get an emergency solved ASAP, and so I only got one bid -- from Solid. I would have felt a lot more comfortable if Solid could have provided a line item invoice, so I could see what I was being charged for each task. Mario claimed that they're somehow not allowed to provide that information. There were a few less-than-stellar incidents along the way, causing delays and inconvenience. These seemed to be caused by inadequate attention to detail, perhaps due to Solid being "spread too thin". But the job did finally get done. Russ S.Verified We have used Solid Plumbing & Drains for multiple projects at our property and we have been extremely happy with their quality of work! Mario is very knowledgeable and a great guy to work with. He and his team really care about doing a good job and satisfying their clients. Highly recommend this company! Maria M.Verified Mario was right on time and took care of the problem quickly, efficiently, and cleanly! Loli W.Verified Such a great company to work with. They truly help out and are very patient and knowledgeable. I love that they also answer right away and are willing to go the extra mile. David M.Verified They responded very fast! Great job! Very professional! Reasonable pricing! Highly recommend! Aaron H.Verified We had a leaky copper water line in the attic, dripping through ceiling drywall late on a hot Friday afternoon. We contacted Solid Plumbing & Drains through the Yelp website. We appreciated Mario, the owner, quickly responding by phone and that he arrived with his assistant about an hour later. Mario replaced a short length of the leaking water line, charging $658. So far so good. But Mario said and did several things which caused me to no longer trust him. (1) When he gave me the initial price of $750, he said there were actually two leaky fittings (showed me photos) but the next morning I saw he only made one repair; apparently there was really only one leaky joint. (2) His written estimate said he would make solder joints per code, but then he mentioned he would use a "pro press", which I Googled and found out is essentially a crimped connection which is faster and easier for the plumber. When I told him I wanted conventional soldered joints, he resisted and tried to talk me into the pro press. When I insisted on soldered joints, he said he would need a "change order" to charge more money. I pointed out that his written estimate called for solder joints; he said the estimate was AI generated and it should have said pro press. So after a rather lengthy discussion Mario agreed to do the job with soldered joints, and it looks like he did a good job. (3) He told me his work is guaranteed for one year; but his invoice (received by email hours later) had a link to "terms and conditions", which state that his work is only guaranteed for 90 days. (4) When he first described what he had found in the attic (as he quoted me an initial price of $750) he said the leaks had been going on for some time with damage to a wood beam, and that he would refer me to a remediation company. But at the end (after our disagreement on method of repair) I asked him about the possible beam damage, and he acted like he had never said any such thing. Rick E.
When reading reviews of emergency plumbing services, pay attention to mentions of response time. Companies that consistently arrive when promised demonstrate reliability and respect for their customers’ time.
Look for comments about pricing transparency. Reviews mentioning “no surprise charges” or “pricing was exactly as quoted” indicate companies that operate with integrity.
Quality of work is obviously important, but also look for reviews that mention follow-up service or warranty support. This shows the company stands behind their work.
Customer service matters, especially during stressful emergency situations. Reviews that mention courteous, professional technicians who explain the problem and solution clearly indicate companies that prioritize customer experience.

You’re enjoying a quiet evening in your beautiful Old Town home when you suddenly hear the unmistakable sound of rushing water coming from your master bathroom. As you rush to investigate, you discover water pouring from a burst pipe behind your shower wall, already soaking through to the adjacent bedroom. Your mind immediately races with concerns: How much damage is this causing? Who can fix this at 10 PM? How much will this emergency repair cost in an expensive area like Old Town?
If you’re a homeowner or business owner in Old Town dealing with a plumbing emergency, these worries are completely understandable. Plumbing disasters seem to have perfect timing – they strike during weekend gatherings, late at night, or right before you’re hosting important guests. The combination of potential property damage and concern about being overcharged by emergency contractors can make an already stressful situation feel overwhelming, especially in a high-value real estate market like Old Town
At Solid Plumbing & Drains Inc, we’ve been helping Old Town residents handle these challenging situations for years. We understand the unique plumbing challenges that come with living in North County’s premier coastal community, from the effects of salt air on pipes to the mix of luxury developments and established neighborhoods. Our licensed, experienced plumbers have handled every type of emergency imaginable, from burst pipes in oceanfront condos to sewer backups in Old Town hillside communities.
This comprehensive guide will provide everything you need to know about emergency plumbing services in Old Town. You’ll learn about how pricing works to help you make informed decisions, discover how to recognize common problems before they become disasters, understand when to call a professional versus attempting a DIY fix, and get a clear framework for choosing the right emergency plumber. By the time you finish reading, you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to handle any plumbing emergency that comes your way.
Let’s address the topic that’s likely causing you the most concern – cost. When you’re dealing with a plumbing emergency in Old Town, understanding how pricing works helps you make informed decisions and avoid contractors who might try to exploit your urgent situation or the area’s affluent reputation.
Several important factors determine what you’ll pay for emergency plumbing service in Old Town. Understanding these factors helps you evaluate quotes and ensures you’re receiving fair pricing.
Time of service plays a major role in your final bill. Most plumbing companies charge premium rates for after-hours calls, which typically include evenings after 6 PM, weekends, and holidays. While this premium might seem steep, consider the cost of water damage to high-value Old Town properties if you wait until regular business hours.
The complexity of your plumbing problem directly impacts labor costs. A simple drain clog that can be cleared with standard tools costs significantly less than a burst pipe that requires accessing plumbing behind walls or under expensive finishes. More complex problems require specialized equipment, additional time, and sometimes multiple visits to complete properly.
Required parts and materials contribute to your total cost. Emergency repairs often demand immediate solutions, so your plumber must have common parts readily available or be able to source them quickly. Some specialized components might cost more when needed urgently, but reputable emergency plumbers will explain these costs before proceeding.
Access challenges can increase labor time and costs. If your plumbing problem is located in a crawl space, behind finished walls, or in another difficult-to-reach area, it requires more time and effort to complete the repair. Old Town mix of oceanfront properties, hillside homes, and luxury developments means plumbers encounter various access scenarios and must work carefully around expensive finishes.
Every plumbing emergency is unique, which is why we provide personalized estimates for each situation. What might seem like a simple problem on the surface could have underlying complications that only become apparent during an inspection. Conversely, what appears to be a major disaster might have a straightforward solution.
During our initial assessment, we evaluate the specific circumstances of your emergency, including the extent of the problem, accessibility, required materials, and the time needed for completion. This thorough evaluation allows us to provide you with an accurate estimate that reflects the actual work required.
We believe in providing detailed explanations of what needs to be done and why. This helps ensure you can make informed decisions about your plumbing repairs. Our goal is to solve your emergency efficiently while ensuring you understand exactly what you're paying for.
At Solid Plumbing & Drains Inc, we practice transparent, upfront pricing because we understand how vulnerable you feel during a plumbing emergency. We provide written estimates before starting any work, so you know exactly what you'll invest. Our pricing reflects the specific job requirements, not your property value or neighborhood reputation.
We use per-project pricing rather than hourly rates, meaning you won’t worry about costs climbing as the plumber works. If we discover additional problems during the repair, we’ll discuss them with you and provide a separate estimate before proceeding. This approach protects you from surprise charges and helps you make informed decisions about your plumbing investments.
Understanding the most frequent plumbing emergencies in Old Town helps you recognize problems early and know when professional help is needed. Our coastal location and luxury housing market create some specific challenges that homeowners and business owners should understand.
Burst pipes top our emergency call list, especially during Old Town cooler winter months and when homes experience water pressure fluctuations. While freezing temperatures aren’t an issue here, we see failures due to age, corrosion from salt air, and water pressure issues. Luxury homes with complex plumbing systems can be more vulnerable to pressure-related failures.
Severe drain clogs are common, especially in areas with mature trees where roots infiltrate aging sewer lines. The beautiful landscaping that makes Old Town neighborhoods appealing can also create serious underground plumbing problems. Eucalyptus trees and other coastal plants aggressively seek out water sources, putting added pressure on plumbing systems.
Water heater failures become emergencies when they cause flooding or a complete loss of hot water. Old Town hard water and salt air can accelerate wear on water heater components, leading to unexpected breakdowns. High-end homes often have larger or multiple water heating systems, which can make failures more complex and costly to repair.
Sewer backups are especially problematic, affecting multiple fixtures and creating health hazards. These emergencies are more common during San Diego County’s rainy season, when overwhelmed municipal systems lead to backups into homes and businesses.
While less frequent, gas line leaks are the most serious emergencies we handle. Southern California's seismic activity can occasionally cause gas line connections to loosen or break. If you detect a gas odor, it always requires immediate professional attention and evacuation.
Many plumbing emergencies provide warning signs before becoming full disasters. Learning to recognize these early indicators can save you money and prevent extensive property damage to your valuable Old Town home.
A drop in water pressure throughout your home or business often signals developing issues with your main water line or significant leaks somewhere in your system. If multiple fixtures suddenly have reduced pressure, it’s important to investigate immediately to prevent further damage.
Unusual pipe noises like banging, whistling, or gurgling typically indicate problems. Water hammer (banging sounds) may signal loose pipes or water pressure issues, while gurgling sounds often suggest developing blockages in your sewer line.
Discolored water, especially brown or rusty water, often points to corrosion in your pipes or water heater. This is particularly common in coastal areas like Old Town, where salt air accelerates pipe deterioration. While it might not seem urgent, it’s a clear indicator that pipe failure may be on the horizon.
Unpleasant smells, particularly sewage odors, often indicate problems with your sewer line or drainage system. These odors can pose health risks and are especially concerning in luxury homes, where entertaining guests may expose the problem.
Wet spots on walls, ceilings, or floors are often the first sign of hidden leaks. In Old Town dry climate, these spots are particularly noticeable. It's crucial to investigate immediately to prevent mold growth and damage to expensive finishes.
Delaying repairs is the biggest mistake we see property owners make. What begins as a small leak can quickly turn into a major flood, and a partial drain blockage can escalate into a complete sewer backup. In Old Town, with its extremely high real estate values, water damage can be particularly expensive. Quick action is always the most economical choice.
While we appreciate the DIY spirit, DIY attempts often transform simple problems into complex, expensive repairs. Plumbing systems in luxury homes are often more intricate than they appear. Using incorrect tools or techniques can damage expensive fixtures, create new leaks, or even violate local building codes.
Ignoring early warning signs allows small problems to escalate into major emergencies. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to minor issues can prevent most plumbing emergencies from occurring and save you from costly repairs.
The internet offers plenty of DIY plumbing advice, and while some minor issues can be handled by handy homeowners, it’s important to know when a problem requires professional expertise. Making the wrong choice can turn a manageable situation into an expensive disaster, especially in high-value homes.
Gas line issues should always be handled by licensed professionals. California's building codes require specific certifications for gas line work, and mistakes can be fatal. If you smell gas, turn off the gas at the meter if you can do so safely, evacuate the area, and call both the gas company and a licensed plumber immediately.
Sewer line repairs require specialized equipment and expertise that most homeowners don't have. These repairs also often require permits and inspections to ensure they meet local health and safety codes. Attempting DIY sewer repairs can result in health hazards and expensive code violations.
Major pipe replacements, especially those involving your home's main water line or pipes inside walls, should be left to professionals. These repairs often require permits, and mistakes can cause extensive water damage or violate building codes.
Water heater installations involve both plumbing and electrical or gas connections, making them complex projects requiring professional expertise. Improper installation can create safety hazards and void manufacturer warranties.
Minor plumbing issues can often be handled by homeowners, such as clearing minor clogs, adjusting a running toilet, or temporarily containing leaks. However, if problems persist or cause damage, it’s best to call a professional for proper repairs.
Minor clogs in sinks or toilets can often be cleared with a plunger or drain snake, provided you use the right tools and techniques. However, if these methods don't work quickly, call a professional before causing damage to expensive fixtures or pipes.
Running toilet adjustments, such as replacing a flapper or adjusting the chain, are relatively simple repairs that most homeowners can handle. These repairs use inexpensive parts and don't involve major plumbing connections.
Temporary leak containment, such as shutting off water to a fixture or using pipe repair clamps, can help minimize damage while you wait for professional help. However, these are temporary solutions that require proper repair as soon as possible.
Hiring a professional plumber offers safety, expertise, and peace of mind. With proper training, tools, and insurance, they ensure repairs are done correctly, comply with local codes, and come with warranties for lasting results.
Safety concerns make professional service the smart choice for most plumbing emergencies. Plumbers have the training and experience to work safely around water, electricity, and gas lines. They also carry insurance that protects you if something goes wrong during the repair.
Proper tools and expertise ensure repairs are completed correctly the first time. Professional plumbers have specialized tools that aren't practical for homeowners to own, and they know how to use them safely and effectively around expensive fixtures and finishes.
Warranty protection gives you peace of mind that the repair will last. When you hire a licensed professional, you typically receive warranties on both parts and labor. If the problem returns, you're covered.
Code compliance is required for most plumbing repairs in Old Town. Professional plumbers know local building codes and can ensure repairs meet all requirements. This is particularly important in luxury homes where resale value is a major consideration.
Not all plumbing companies provide equal service, especially for emergencies in luxury markets. Knowing what to look for helps you find a trustworthy professional who will solve your problem fairly and effectively.
Choosing the right emergency plumber requires careful consideration. Ensure they are properly licensed and insured, offer 24/7 availability, provide transparent pricing, have a strong local reputation, and can meet response time guarantees.
Proper licensing and insurance are non-negotiable requirements for any plumbing contractor you hire. In California, plumbers must be licensed by the Contractors State License Board. You can verify a contractor's license status online, and you should always request proof of insurance before allowing work to begin.
True 24/7 availability separates genuine emergency plumbing services from regular plumbing companies. Look for companies that answer their phones after hours and can dispatch a plumber quickly. Be cautious of companies that only offer to schedule you for the next business day when you're dealing with an active emergency.
Transparent pricing means the company provides written estimates and explains their pricing structure clearly. Good emergency plumbers will give you a price range over the phone based on your problem description and provide a firm estimate before beginning work.
Local reputation matters because it shows how the company treats customers in your community. Check online reviews, ask neighbors for recommendations, and look for companies that have been serving Old Town and North County for several years.
Response time guarantees demonstrate that a company takes emergency service seriously. While traffic and distance affect response times, professional emergency plumbers should provide realistic timeframes and meet them consistently.
Watch out for common red flags when hiring a plumber. Be cautious of door-to-door solicitors, unusually low estimates, pressure for immediate payment, lack of written estimates, and unlicensed contractors. Always verify professionalism and credentials to avoid scams and poor-quality work.
Door-to-door solicitors who claim to be in your neighborhood and notice a problem with your plumbing are almost always scams. Legitimate emergency plumbers don't solicit business this way.
Unusually low estimates often indicate that the contractor plans to add charges once they start work, or that they're not properly licensed and insured. If an estimate seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Pressure for immediate payment, especially full payment upfront, is a major red flag. Professional contractors typically require payment upon work completion, and they accept multiple payment methods.
No written estimates suggest that the contractor isn't professional or may try to change prices after work begins. Always insist on written estimates for any work over $100.
Unlicensed contractors may offer lower prices, but they put you at risk for poor workmanship, code violations, and liability issues. Always verify licensing before hiring any contractor.

Regular maintenance is the best prevention. Have your plumbing system inspected annually, address small problems promptly, avoid putting grease or foreign objects down drains, and know where your main water shutoff valve is located.
